In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

What have you learned from your audience feedback?

I’d just like to say that audience feedback is a vital part of putting together any product. The audience and the intended targets are what makes a product so demanding. Here are a few videos of some questions I asked my intended target audience…

[Play feedback]

I think this type of feedback is extremely important, if I was ever in this situation I will know what I did right and things that I can improve on. As you can see from a few of the videos I included, the responses were generally quite good. This is usually the point when companies give music videos and films the green light, when at least 90% of the viewers enjoyed the products. Although the feedback we received was from a specific audience of teenagers aged 16-19, this was roughly our intended target audience so getting information about the videos from other sources such as adults and children would be pretty much irrelevant.

The song we had chosen for our music video was Heavy-D nuttin’ but love. We chose this song and tried to put a more modern take on the song as the song was originally quite old.

When we released the almost finished music video to the rest of my class, I found that the feedback I received was all extremely positive and encouraging for our first ever music video. When asked what their favourite part of the video was they all said the fact that the video was well edited and extremely entertaining.

The main target for the video was the fact that people would easily be able to understand the overall story. The story is about a man liking a girl and constantly chasing after her, but she really isn’t interested in the young man.

How effective is the combination of the main product and ancillary text?

How effective is the combination of the main product and ancillary text?

Branding the product: Character image/ Iconography

The character/image was an important part of deciding the future of the product. Across the different products we had to focus on the branding of the product so that it could maximise revenue. The main section of the video was about me so the group thought that I would be the best person to have on the front cover of the digipak, and also on a large part of the website. The information about me on the website is all true. We created a house style on our document so that all the different texts all had the same theme to it. The house style we decided to use was the graffiti wall. The graffiti wall was a nice colourful background that we could have to attract customers when our cover is in shops. We also decided to take a photo-shoot so that the website could contain more information about the current house styles.

The text of the three formats was consistent throughout the whole document. The reason we kept the same text is so that each one of our texts were distinctive. This form of branding meant that our texts could be different from the rest.

Branding the product: Props, costumes & colours

After reaching the point where we had to choose an appropriate song, our group had to think about the props and how we would dress the artist in order to conform to the genre and appeal to the target audience. Since our genre was hip hop/rap after doing research we decided the best choice was to use bright colours as it’s a stereotypical scheme to use when looking at other videos such as the’ Fresh prince of Bell air’ opening.
We also made sure the colour scheme was repeated in the digi-pak, the vibrant look I felt appeals to our target audience which is 15-19.

Colours AND EFFECTS
Similar to the costumes, we chose a vibrant colour in order to appeal to our audience. After extensive research, we found out that the main colours and effects of the music genre were bright colours and attractive scenes. In current music videos, there is always a male gaze. Gabby played this role in the music video and we followed these conventions by dressing her quite provocatively.

Branding the product: Function
The three pieces of text that we created as a group worked well together. The reason these products worked so well together was mainly because of the fact that the house style was always the same. We made sure that the house style was the same for this exact effect.
Beside the video and the website, all the other pieces of information were then added as additional work on the blog.
We created social network sites to keep the 'fans' up to date with the situation of the video and the products. Fans responded to tweets and messages and this was the best way for us to connect with the target audience. This way we could hear exactly what they wanted done, and the easiest way to do it.

Thank you for watching

How did you use new media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stage?

Before we did any research on actual artists, we decided to look at the history of pop music and the contribution it has on young teenagers today. Seeing as the main overall target audience for hip hop music is teenagers aged 15-19, we decided to make this our target audience.
We decided to use Youtube as the main factor of getting all our information. The reason this was such a good source to get all our information for was because all the current top artists information was on youtube and google. We could obtain large amounts of information on current, relevant artists.
We decided to look at current videos and start thinking about the changes it can make towards the development of the product.

We decided to ask individuals on both facebook and on twitter what they thought would be in a good music. The results are on the group blog and the information will help create the overview on what the actual final product would look like.

First we created a blogger account so that we could track all the information we have created and easily distribute the work between the group. We also set up accounts with Facebook so that we had a group conversation and could easily send information to each other.
We then created a twitter group for the artist so that any information and feedback for the presentation could be sent to that account.
We created a website so that the work could be easily seen from any fans. The website will include things like pictures from photoshoots, fan input tabs, ways to connect with the audience and new releases would easily be able to be sold on this website. We created this website using a tool called wix.

We then used Photoshop design to create the front cover of the digi-pak. The digi-pak was created using Photoshop. We created 3 different sets of digi-paks and got some feedback and made changes to the documents.
We then grabbed a camera and started filming. We made sure we had a story board and location recce so that we knew where to film and become more time-efficient. We made sure, when we were filming that we had enough footage so that we could edit a lot of the video within the first session.
The software we used to film was both final cut pro and adobe after effects CS5. We used these two softwares as they were the easiest to use and because we had the most experience with this.
For my evaluation, I will be talking about different things that helped shape our project. This evaluation will require me to talk about the different things that we came across during the project and will allow me to discuss what future changes I would have made.
The format i will be uploading my work in prezi form, video form and in Powtoon. I chose this format as it will present my work in a professional format.
Throughout the development of our work, i have taken pictures of the stages of the work. The stages of the work have been uploaded onto the group blog and have been uploading the different stages the group have been at with the work until the final product was completed.
We then started to share all the information to both twitter and facebook and recorded all the feedback of the information and have included it in my evaluation video.
